What Happens On First Lesson

If you have booked your very first driving lesson, or is considering doing so, sometimes the thought can be daunting!

Not knowing what to expect on your very first lesson can be nerve-racking – here at LivingstonDrive we will put your mind at ease by highlighting what takes place from beginning to end of your very first lesson

  • Your instructor will carry out an eyesight test by asking you to read a car number plate approximately 20 meters away (this is the standard requirement)
  • Your provisional licence will be checked and details such as your licence number will be written down
  • You will then be asked a series of questions to ascertain any previous knowledge of driving and or riding (do not worry! if you have zero experience, this is even better for us)
  • You will then be driven to a quite location, away from busy roads and traffic where you can focus on your lesson without the worry of multiple vehicles around you
  • For new beginners, you will be taught how to make yourself comfortable in a seated position in order to reach and use your foot/feet controls correctly, this will also include the setting of your mirrors
  • You will then be taught all the various controls including the names and how to use each control
  • You will then be taught two routines, the first routine teaches you how to move the car off safely, while the second routine teaches you how to stop the car safely
  • You will then have the opportunity to move off and stop and continue to practice this with the full support of your instructor
  • At the end of your lesson, you will be provided with feedback by your instructor on your performance
  • Your instructor will book you in for the next lesson and drive you back to the drop-off point
